Confirmed Ukrainian Fixed-Wing Aircraft Losses in the Ukraine War

So, we will start with the Mig-29—a fighter jet that has been used extensively by Ukraine during the war and the jet that the supposed Ghost of Kyiv piloted. The first photo of a Ukrainian loss is from the opening day of the war—24/02, this photo emerged of a Mig-29 crashing into a lake. No location was given by Oryx and this one isn’t listed on aviation safety.

The second Mig-29 confirmed lost was reported by Ukrainian media. Major Stephan Tarabalka was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine Star after being shot down on 2nd of March. According to the news source, this occurred in Kyiv region in an air battle between Mig-29s and SU-35S fighters. Ukraine claims two SU-35s destroyed but one Mig-29 destroyed.

On 16th March, Ukraine reported the loss of Mig-29 pilot Major Eugene Lisenko, killed near Zhytomyr. He engaged 2 aircraft, shot down one but was hit by AA fire—this report makes it seem like it was a SAM or AA fire ffrom the ground which destroyed his aircraft.

On 16th March, this photo emerged showing a wrecked Mig-29 in a field.

And on 25th Match, Ukraine media reported the death of Dmitry Chumachenko who was reported shot down in an air battle over Tryhirya.

Now, as mentioned, Oryx, bizarrely, hasn’t got the Mig-29s destroyed art Ivano-Frankisk listed. Six Migs are shown with a variety of damage.

Now, we have the Su-27. The first photo shows a Su-27 which aviation safety reports as being destroyed on 24th February in an airstrike at Ozerne Airfield.

On 25th February wreckage of this aircraft, showing bullet holes in the canopy, was posted online.

On 28th February. Ukrainian media reported that Major Stepan Choban was killed while distracting enemy aircraft. He was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Ukraine.

Now, let’s take a look at the Su-25 ground attack aircraft—a personal favorite of mine. On 26th of February, wreckage of a Su-25 was shown in a field. Aviation Safety id’d this aircraft as been number 30 Blue. It was shot down near Nikolaev after departing Kulbakino air base and was part of the 299th tactical aviation brigade.

In the same event, Su-25 19 Blue was shot down. It was also part of the 299th. The wreckage was confirmed to be of two different craft—19 Blue and 30 Blue.

On 10th March, Su-25 31 Blue was shot down. It was destroyed in Kherson region—Nova Kakhovka.

On 17th March, this photo was shown of a Su-25 shot down. The wreckage landing in woods.

And on 23rd March, we received this video footage of a heavily damaged Su-25 from the 299th Tactical Aviation Brigade. It somehow managed to crash land successfully, which shows just how tough these aircraft are. I mean, this thing is absolutely shot to pieces and the fact it managed to land successfully is testament to its toughness.

A shootdown not recorded by Oryx occurred on April 15 near Izyum—footage showing a Ukrainian Su-25 being hit by a missile, recorded by a thermal imager.

Now, the Su-24, of which there are three reported by Oryx.

The first was shotdown near Bucha, with two fatalities. They were part of the 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade.

The 2nd was images of Su-24 wreckage in the woods on the 3rd April. No lcoation given by aviation-safety, but they report it was identified as a Su-24 by the engine.

The 3rd Su-24 was photographed on the 14th april in a field. Aviation-safety report it as destroyed near Izyum by MANPADS with the pilot, Major Kovalenko, dying in the crash. Russia also claims to have shot down two Su-25s in the same incident.

Finally, the final combat jet by Oryx is either a Su-27 or a Mig-29—the posted news report says that Dmytro Kolomiets was a pilot of both.

Now, we will move on to the transport aircraft—three are reported destroyed by Oryx.

The first is an iL-76. This was destroyed on the ground at Melitopol, identified as aircraft 76697. Destroyed on 4th March. Aviation-safety has a photo of a 2nd il-76 destroyed at Melitopol, not posted by oryx. This one has its nose section and cabin destroyed.

On 24/02—the first day of the war, a photo was shared showing a destroyed An-26 transporter. On the 22nd April, another Asn-26 transporter was shown shot down. In the first incident, 5 crewmen were killed when it was shot down south of kyiv.

The 2nd incident, the An-26 actually belonged to Ukrainian Civil Aviation and crashed because of fog.

So there we have it for the confirmed fixed-wing losses of Ukraine. There are of course likely many more shot down as not every one will be recorded or photographed or even reported on.
